Feeling the Blues

With our move-in date a few days away, I've been obsessing about paint colors. I love bright colors but also know that I can be very fickle. My, (or I should say the bf's), fear is that I'm going to decide on a color I'll love for about three months and then move on to my latest color du jour and have to completely re-paint.

I've thought about painting the wall above our fireplace a bright accent color and leaving the rest of the room neutral. I'm leaning towards a turquoise or robin's egg blue, but who knows, I could be on to a new color tomorrow!

Here are some images that are inspiring me:

I think the blue would play nicely off of my two Christian Chaize prints.

And my Dimitri Berea print.

Maybe a pair of these Robert Abbey lamps from CSN would help tie it all together if I end up only doing an accent wall?

And then there's the question of fabric for my window treatments..... I can tell this is going to be a work in progress for awhile!

I would LOVE to hear your thoughts, comments, suggestions. As you can tell, I'm a little lost!

  2. I love the blue walls!!! they would be a bit trickier to decorate around though especially as your tastes change. I painted my bedroom a dark sage green and less than a year later, I don't really love it like I used to when it was first painted. But it's a big room with high ceilings, a lot of work involved to repaint so it's staying for awhile. I'm learning to re-love it again though as I add different accessories.

  4. For longevity sake I'm always a fan of the neutral wall and louder accents! Then when we fickle girls tire of something it's a snap to change! xo Erica

  5. I like number 2 and 4. I would likely go with number 2 so the prints aren't competing the brighter turquoise.

  6. I think the blue in the first picture is the best! I think the turquoise is pretty but you might get tired of it quick.

I love the accent wall idea! Add the same color in pillows and lamps or a rug. Sounds like so much fun! I love decorating! :)

can i just tell you that first photo of the blue walls, i LOVED and repainted my room back then in that color. it was the happiest bedroom i have ever decorated. at first i was nervous about the boldness but it ended up being such a great room, everyone wanted to come see it. it was fun to be in, wake up to, etc. do it do it :)

  13. I love turquoise! My bedroom is white, black and turquoise and I really love it. My dad painted a dresser of his he used growing up in a really pretty shade of turquoise and it's one of my favorite parts of the room.

  15. Dont feel you have to do EVERYTHING at once. Do things slowly and only get what you love. I seriously regret going all out when we first moved into our place because I just had to re-do everything down the road and spend even more money. So what if you dont have curtains right away, you will find some eventually. Speaking of curtains, I am a huge fan of buying ready made panels and then adding something to them to make them look more custom. Even if you cant sew you could add a pretty edge of fabric on the leading edge, or even a beautiful ribbon trim with that iron on stuff.

Other advice, stick with white lampshades- again you can gussy them up later. Fabric samples make great throw pillows and can be changed easy. Spray paint is your best friend. And so is your parents, grandparents and (future) in-laws attics and basements- I bet there are great treasures hiding, just waiting for a second life in your home.

I cant wait to see everything you do!! You better take lots of pics.
