As you know, I'm all about scouring craigslist for hidden gems. A few months back I found this french nightstand and scooped it up for around $40.00 thinking it would be perfect as a console table in our tiny entryway. I loved the lines but the color just wasn't working in our apartment, it was a little too washed out.
This past weekend I finally got around to giving it a few coats of glossy black paint. Here's the finished result:
The fixtures are still looking a little dingy because the previous owner seems to have lightly painted them in spots, I guess they were going for shabby chic? I'm trying to figure out the best way to get that paint off and restore these to their original shiny brass glory. I'd love to hear your suggestions.
Have a great weekend!!
It looks great shiny black! I have a dresser and nightstand from when I was teenager in the same design.
ReplyDeleteit looks amazing in black! how did you avoid painting the gold details? Also, you could try brass cleaner on the hardware, it may work on paint, otherwise you'll have to take them off and use a paint stripper I think
ReplyDeleteThat looks great...I must commend you on your craigslist hunting! xx
ReplyDeleteOh my gosh, you are a craigslist genius! It looks great! xoxo
ReplyDeleteMuch better in black...good vision!
ReplyDeleteOOh I love how it turned out!
ReplyDeleteThat console looks wonderful.Great job and the love the horse head book ends.
ReplyDeleteSeems like I remember soaking some hardware in ammonia to clean it, only to find out it also stripped off some of the finish. It might work on yours! Be careful of the fumes if you try this. xoxo
ReplyDeleteI love this so much more in the black - very chic! Averil at Odi et Amo offered some advice on re-storing hardware on a post she recently did on refinishing a credenza. Maybe that will help? Good luck! Marija
